Steps to Follow Prior to Your Leave
If you are on the district’s medical insurance, enroll in PEHP’s WeeCare rebate program. Click here to learn more.- Verify that your physician and planned hospital are both in your network.
- If you are on the district’s medical insurance, you can verify coverage by clicking here.
- Compare both parent’s coverage (if applicable) to find the best coverage for your family’s new needs. Consider factors beyond the premium, such as deductibles, copays, and out-of-pocket maximums. Verify which network the baby is going to have. You have 30 calendar days after delivery to add your baby to your benefits.
- Apply for FMLA through Skyward. Use this tutorial to help you. Please note: To qualify for FMLA, you must have all 3 of the following factors:
- Have a qualifying event, such as birth of a child or adoption.
- You must have worked for the District for more than 12 months.
- You must have worked 1250 hours in the 12 months immediately preceding the leave.
- Ask your medical provider to complete and return the Employee Medical Certification.
- Arrange for a long-term substitute.
- Review tentative calendar and request any changes you would like to make.
- Provide HR with an estimated time frame for your leave.
- Consider daycare options following arrival
Start of Leave/During Leave To Do's
- Let HR and your local administration (or contact the substitute office) know what day the baby is born.
- Notify the administrative assistant and HR generalist on your first day of leave.
- Enter time in Skyward Employee Access by the last day of each month or request assistance from administrative assistant.
- Have your medical provider complete and return the Return-to-Work Release.
- Provide your employer a copy of the baby’s birth certificate once received.
- This creates a qualifying event for you to increase your Medical Flex Spending Account and elect or increase Dependent Care Flex Spending Account if you are planning on taking them to daycare.
- Verify the process to enroll your new dependent on group life insurance (if available) and sign up for dependent voluntary life.
Steps MUST be followed AT LEAST 7 days prior to anticipated return date!
- Provide HR generalist with a completed Return to Work release, including information about any work duty restrictions.
- Obtain approval to work with restrictions and sign Transitional Work Agreement, as applicable.
